New York City

After only a week’s visit to New York City, one ponders why every city isn’t like the Big Apple. Although New York was part of the original 13 colonies, and therefore had one of the longest opportunities to develop, one still can’t take such seniority as the only possible reason New York City clearly stands above all the rest. Taking a deep, New York City breath, one can only awe at the uniqueness and intensity of perhaps this country’s greatest city.

At first impact, New York City embraces its guests with a wealth of diversity. A simple glimpse of New York City leaves the streets, and your memory, lined with peoples of every class, culture, and age demographic imaginable. The cuisine follows suit. With different tastes lingering on every New York City street and every palate, it is never a far, nor difficult, journey to a 5-star steak dinner or a $2 hotdog–even if such tastes develop at 3:00am on a hotel street corner.

At 3:00am, though, even appetites can find company. New York City’s nightlife is alive at all hours, rain or shine. With bars and nightclubs open until 4:00am, and first call arriving at 5:00am, New York City is a city that truly does not sleep. Nor does it drag on throughout the day afterwards: New York City pushes Broadway musicals, plays, and themed restaurants to appeal to the daytime entertainer just as fondly as the nighttime.

And should the eccentric entertainment standards of New York City be a little too heavy, one need only look upward to the climbing skyscrapers to find equal amusement among the city’s business sector. From the office window or the ground floor, one can easily be overwhelmed by the enormity of industry New York City represents. As a passerby, the ringing cell phones and the broken bits of conversations lead one to wonder into the lives of the suits and ties that pepper these New York City streets.

Even with all the colors in the world, one could not possibly paint the magnificence of New York City in a lifetime. Its beauty is immeasurable, and therefore cannot simply be defined by its seniority and development among the other cities of this country. There is something more at work here in New York City: something that perhaps cannot be measured, calculated, or even put into historical perspective. This is the beauty of New York City: one that cannot be duplicated and one that cannot be forgotten, not even after a short, one-week visit.
